Catherine has two brothers, and they all live with their mother, Zaituni Mutesi, in a very poor, small house in the village of Kigwere on Busagazi Island. Their father, Muzeyi Fred, abandoned the family, and no one knows where he went. The family has no beds, so they all sleep on a dusty floor as Zaituni cannot afford to buy basic necessities. One brother is in primary two class, and the other is in primary one class.
Zaituni makes papyrus mats, which she sells for about 3,000 Ugandan shillings (equivalent to 60 pence). It takes her about a week to make one mat. Sometimes, she also fetches water from the well to sell to the local people, charging 30 pence for 10 jerrycans. However, when it rains, both of these businesses suffer because the papyrus doesnβt dry, and the local people harvest rainwater instead of buying it.
Despite these challenges, Zaituni loves singing in church and teaches her children church songs, which brings them joy and helps them stay happy. Please support her to further her education.
At KINGSTONE UGANDA PROJECT, we believe all children deserve an equal chance to thrive. Your sponsorship can ensure a child has enough to eat, an education, and hope for the future. As a sponsor, you'll develop a special relationship with your sponsored child, receiving digital photos, handwritten messages, regular updates, and a monthly 1-5 minute WhatsApp video call.
You can choose a child to sponsor or let our team in Uganda select one in greatest need. It takes only a few minutes to become a sponsor, and you could change a child's life forever. Sponsorship costs just Β£15 a month, covering food, water, education, and healthcare for a child who walks to school from home.
For Β£25 a month, your sponsorship will also cover boarding school, which many Ugandan children attend due to distance. Boarding schools provide running water, good toilets, and shelter during heavy rains.
To learn more, please contact us through our website. We would be happy to talk with you, and you can even visit Uganda and our schools.
