Edith lives with both her parents, Margaret Nanyonjo and Richard Mukisa, along with her six siblings: four sisters and three brothers. The family resides in a village near Lake Victoria. Margaret grows food to feed the family, while Richard works as a fisherman. However, because he engages in illegal fishing (catching young fish), he is frequently arrested by the Lake Victoria marine police. His fellow fishermen often have to bribe officials to secure his release, and he returns home beaten and bruised.
Richard never manages to earn any money to support the family financially; he only brings home a small fish each day for soup. Whenever they see a government speedboat approaching, Richard and his fellow fishermen abandon their nets and flee. If the marine police catch their nets, they burn them publicly, arrest the fishermen, beat them with rods, and throw them into jail. We kindly ask for financial help so that she can continue to go to school.
At KINGSTONE UGANDA PROJECT, we believe all children deserve an equal chance to thrive. Your sponsorship can ensure a child has enough to eat, an education, and hope for the future. As a sponsor, you'll develop a special relationship with your sponsored child, receiving digital photos, handwritten messages, regular updates, and a monthly 1-5 minute WhatsApp video call.
You can choose a child to sponsor or let our team in Uganda select one in greatest need. It takes only a few minutes to become a sponsor, and you could change a child's life forever. Sponsorship costs just £15 a month, covering food, water, education, and healthcare for a child who walks to school from home.
