- Shalom Nangobi has two brothers and lives with her mother, Olivia Nabukenya, who live in a small, dusty house that is unsuitable for the family in the village of Namusenyu on Busagazi Island. Her father, Joseph Opio, abandoned the family due to internal conflicts, leaving her mother unable to afford school fees for the children. On Busagazi Island, 90% of the men are small-scale fishermen. On a good day, they might bring home one or two fish to make soup for their families. The island is one of the most neglected areas in Uganda, lacking basic amenities such as toilets, healthcare, and transport systems. Residents must find their own ways to cope with these challenges. Shalom loves music, dance, and drama, but her education is significantly affected by the family's financial difficulties and we therefore look forward to someone who can sponsor her to carry on with her studies.
