Paul Kasadha was named after his father. He lives with both of his parents, Kasadha Paul and Ruth Kukiriza, in Kigwere Village. Paul's father is a fisherman on the island, but like many men there, he resorts to illegal fishing due to the unaffordable cost of legal nets. This often results in arrests and beatings by the Lake Victoria marine police and military. Despite the challenges, he manages to bring home one or two fish for soup.
Paul's mother, Ruth, cuts papyrus from the swamps, dries it, and makes papyrus mats for sale. It takes her three to five days to make one mat, which sells for only 3000 Ugandan shillings, equivalent to about 60 pence. Their small, poor house has no doors or windows; they use papyrus to cover the openings.
Sometimes, the family works in the garden to grow food, but it is never enough to feed them. Despite their hardships, they love their children dearly, and the children have a passion for music and dance.
At KINGSTONE UGANDA PROJECT, we believe all children deserve an equal chance to thrive. Your sponsorship can ensure a child has enough to eat, an education, and hope for the future. As a sponsor, you'll develop a special relationship with your sponsored child, receiving digital photos, handwritten messages, regular updates, and a monthly 1-5 minute WhatsApp video call.
You can choose a child to sponsor or let our team in Uganda select one in greatest need. It takes only a few minutes to become a sponsor, and you could change a child's life forever. Sponsorship costs just £15 a month, covering food, water, education, and healthcare for a child who walks to school from home.
